Should I take the Fine Arts AP exam?

I don’t intend to major in fine arts, but I took an AP fine arts class for the graduation credit.

Will college credit for the class (getting a 3 or higher on the AP exam) help save time/money in college? I can’t find much information on college curriculum requirements, or whether or not they usually require one year of fine arts (so if I get the credit now I won’t need to take it in college).

Thank you!

It depends on the college (each one has its own rules for AP credits, which you should be able to find on the college web page), but if you’re taking the class, there is very little downside to taking the AP exam.

It’s very rare that there is a fine arts requirement for college graduation, so at best you may get elective credit. Unless you’re a senior, and you know the college you will be attending does not give credit, I see no reason not to take the exam (really, it’s a portfolio submission)

Thanks for the responses.

I’m considering not taking it because not only will it be a waste of time, but also I’m not confident I’ll get anything above a 3. I don’t think a lone 3 will look good when I’m reasonably confident I can get a 5 on my other AP exams.

I’d like to rephrase my question.

Will I ever need a fine arts college credit if I don’t intend to major in fine arts?

Thank you!

There may be the rare college that requires one.None come to mind. But if you have target colleges, it’s easy to google graduation requirements.

Alright, thank you!

Denison is an example of a college that has a Fine Arts requirement (2 classes) as part of their GenEd requirements.

There may be a visual/Performing arts requirement that an AP could satisfy
