I'm going to be a senior this fall, and I took the SAT for the third time in June and was pretty dissapointed. I got a 550 in CR, 600 in math, and 620 in writing. My parents really want me to take it again in the fall. I really feel like I won't improve much, maybe 10/20 points max. I also took the ACT in June for the first time and got a 25, but I didn't really study, and I'm taking that again in September. I'm planning on applying to some UC's. My GPA and ec's are under control, I just seem to really suck at the SAT in particular. Does it honestly look bad to take it so many times? Btw sorry if this post has already been asked a million times, I just really need some advice.

any advice?

Yes, those scores are too low for most UC’s.

^Wow, that was really necessary.

Well, your SAT score should translate to the equivalent of a 26. Since you didn’t study for the ACT and still got 25, I would advise focusing on the ACT. You may just be naturally better at the ACT. From reading posts about it, it would seem that both the ACT and SAT can be studied. Although I wouldn’t yet rule out studying more for the SATs and trying again, you should first experiment with the ACT, since you haven’t tried studying it yet, whereas studying for the SATs has produced few improvements. Who knows, maybe you’ll find that it is easy to bring up that 25 to a higher score.

I agree with reallycoolguy; the SAT to ACT conversion is the first thing I looked at. Since you pretty much did on the first try on your ACT what you did on your third try on the SAT, focus on ACT. TAKE A PREP COURSE. don’t beat a dead horse (SAT).

Yeah I agree, you should probably concentrate on the ACT instead. But, there is no reason to take a prep course, I’ve heard that the ACT Prep Courses are pretty bad anyways. Just buy The Official ACT Prep Guide and just read through it and take the practice tests. You should be pretty well-prepared after that.

Alright thanks I’ll focus more on the ACT. I know I can bring that one up if I spend time studying, espically during the summer. But if I take the SAT one more time, does that look bad? Or can I just not send that score if I’m not satisfied with it?
