Hey CC! I am writing this post because I am debating whether or not I should take the SAT in this approaching January. As everyone knows that is the last administrated SAT without the changes. My parents want me to take the old SAT and the new SAT because maybe I will do better on the old one. However, I think that I will do better on the new SAT because I will have more time to do practice tests and to work on filling in the cracks, so to speak. If I do not do too well on the old SAT will colleges see that score, and furthermore, will they see that I took the test twice if they do not see my previous score?
If I were you, I would take the SAT in January after intensive studying over winter break, if you do well then you don’t have to take the new SAT, if you do badly study and take the New SAT (but not in March).
An alternative to doing all this is to take the ACT, which isn’t changing anytime soon. Otherwise, go with what @IAmNotCreativ said. I’m in the class of 2017, so I chose to take the old test in October instead of dealing with the new one in March.
I am pretty sure I will take the ACT and not the old SAT. I am pegging 30s now on practice tests… I really want a 34. I think that if I study hard and take the ACT in April or June I will accomplish that. My course load is tough right now, so it might be best to focus on getting As rather than the approaching SAT. I will have more time to study for the ACT with this strategy. Does that sound good to you guys?
What matters isn’t so much your actual score, but how you compare to others who take the same test.
So if the new exam turns out to be brutal, and across the nation scores drop dramatically, that’s OK. The Ivies will still accept the kids who get the top scores (in addition to whatever criteria they already use.)
A school with 3,000 empty seats isn’t going to accept a freshman class of 2,000 simply because of a drop in scores.
It’s all about percentile, not score.
Thank you for the advice everyone. I registered for the old SAT awhile ago. Currently I am doing practice exams and reviewing concepts that I forgot over the years. My study schedule is fairly demanding. I have high expectations (2150+), but even if I cannot meet that I will have the new exam to try.
