Class of 2017- Can we take 2 old and 2 new SAT's?

Just took the December SAT, got a 1940, want a 2100. Would it be bad to take the last current SAT in January and then two of the new SAT’s if I find it necessary to raise my score?

bump, I would love to know people’s opinions on this (I’m in the same situation too, @LastMinuteScrub)

If I were you, I would prepare as if this was the last chance and take the January SAT.

After January, if necessary, I would move on to ACT.

I’m also curious about this. If I can’t reach 2280+ in January, I might consider moving on to new sat. Act is not an option because that science section breaks me lol, plus I’m not good at finishing under act time limits.

Thanks so much, @LastMinuteScrub, I hadn’t actually seen one of those links so it definitely helped  Bumping this again – if I don’t get the score I want (2250+) on the January SAT, I may consider taking the March or May SAT, but would want to know how that would impact me after already taking the December SAT, and now taking the January one, since I’m very interested in colleges that don’t participate in Score Choice. Would twice on the old SAT and a possible twice on the new SAT be bad? Any advice from anyone on here? (C’mon guys, I heard CC was a great place to ask this kind of stuff!) Thanks!

Since the class of 2017 is in the unique position of having 2 different SATs, I don’t think anyone can fault you, the way they might if there were only one test.

But I suggest taking lots of practice tests (old and new) and then deciding which you want to take based on your practice test scores.

@LastMinuteScrub if that score was without prep, you can raiseit no problem. did you prep intensively before that score?

@disentanglement from your other post, i take that you got around the same score, with no prep at all. that’s a great score for no prep and i think you definitely just probably needed to study a bit and you’ll see your score increase. how about this? study hard, study smart for the old SAT and see if you reach your goal score and come back then. if you’ve reached it, don’t test again. if you haven’t reached it, then you can discuss your options regarding new sat vs. act.

Although, from your posts you do seem like the anxious who needs an immediate answer (don’t worry im literally the same lol). so what i would say after you come back in february when results come back would most likely be along the lines of: the new sat and act are becoming extremely similar, with major differences only in writing really. i personally would recommend taking the act, because normally students take the act once/twice and the sat once/twice , plus from your other post you mention that your first prac test for the act went well for you. so i think you may like to prep for the act rather than the new sat.

however, as always the number one advice would be to take a diagnostic and see which one you do better on and feel like you can improve the most on. and if you do decide to take the new sat, just know to answer your question, i don’t think it will look bad to colleges that you took the sat four times. they are well aware that we are the first year to be given the option of the new sat. And what with it being in the middle of the year and all, they know students will likely naturally take the old and new sat both to see which they do better on. they most likely won’t hold it against you, in my opinion, so you rest there.

tl;dr - prep hard, take the old sat, see how you do. if you aren’t pleased with your scores, take a diagnostic act + diagnostic new sat and decide which one you feel you can improve on the most, without having to worry if it will look bad to colleges that you took the sat four times, because it probably won’t matter. hope that helps!
