Should I take the SAT or Subject test first??

I’m a rising junior who is going to retake the Math II Subject Test from June, but I also need to take the full SAT test as well. Planning to use the October and November dates- which should I do first?

It depends what you’ve been studying this summer (if you have been). Take whatever that is first.
OTOH if you haven’t spent time lopsidedly yet, I would take SAT first, then subject afterwards.
SAT is an aptitude test so you already know that information and imo don’t need to study too much. But Math 2 is content-based, so the refresher of a few months in your math class will do wonders.
Plus, SAT is more important than subject test, and the later date might not make it to colleges in time for app.

Oh wait, just saw that you are a junior. Just take whenever-- there is literally no rush for you.

Take the PSAT in October.

Take SAT on one of the other Spring dates. It’s advisable to take it (or the ACT) once before the summer of Senior year. This gives you enough time to retake it in the Fall (and prep over the summer) if needed. Plus you need a baseline SAT score to select a realistic slate of prospective colleges.

It’ll be stressful to take the first time in Oct or Nov

@PrimeMeridian why would it be stressful? Just wondering bc he’s a junior

Many kids do their best on the SAT and ACT in spring of junior year. Maybe it is because they have a little extra maturity, or maybe it is the junior year curriculum or being fresh from a lot of studying and test-taking. My sons took the SAT and ACT in March, April or May, and took the Math 2 in June because they had studied for their Pre-calc final shortly before the test date. However, if you already finished Pre-calc in sophomore year, then I guess your optimal time for taking the Math 2 will depend on when you will be able to review and prep.

What I meant is that it would be stressful to leave the 1st time SAT till Oct of Senior year.

Take SAT I January or March… SAT II’s in May… and SAT I again in June and August (new test in 2017). That way your SAT II’s will coincide with your cram review sessions on AP Tests. Don’t rush into SAT II’s. They’ll still be there, and if you need to retake them there’s October 2017.
