I’m trying to decide between taking just Math 2 and Chemistry on the same day, or Math 2, Chemistry, and World History all on the same day (to save money).
For math 2, I’m currently in AP Calc AB and did pre-calc earlier this year. I got an A.
For Chemistry, I’m in AP Chemistry. I got an A.
For World History, I’m in AP World History and I have an A.
Do you think 3 is too much to take if I’ve never taken a subject test before?
Most people only take the subject tests once (unless if retaking), so the statement whether 3 is too much shouldn’t depend on whether you’ve taken a subject test before.
If you think you can score well on all three of them, it won’t hurt to take all three. But most colleges that require subject tests usually only require two (e.g. MIT and Caltech require a math and a science, Harvard only requires two subject tests).
@MITer94 Thanks, I was just wondering because I’m not sure if I’ll be too exhausted to do all three in one day and if it’ll affect my test score. I’m not that confident about the Chemistry one but I’m pretty confident about the other two.
Three subject tests is a lot in one day. You do have to pay additional for each test, so if you are really trying to save money it may be a good strategy to take 2 and if you are happy with your scores, you might be all done. On the other hand, you can change your mind at any point. So you could register for 2, then if you finish those and are feeling energetic you can go ahead and spontaneously decide to take any of the available tests as your 3rd, they will just bill you for the additional fee. My kid pre-registered for one and chose her second test spur of the moment on test day.
Also, highly recommend taking subject tests in May, while you are in the thick of stuffing your brain for the AP test. The overlap in preparation is considerable.
@VSGPeanut101 That sounds like a good idea, I mean registering for 2 and deciding that day whether to take a third. And the May 2nd date is before all my AP tests so I might not be fully prepared by that time, but then again I might forget some stuff by the June 6th date. I guess May might be better then.
@dsi411 the may 2th SAT isnt a bad time to take Subject tests. Also the Chem AP exam is the 4th, and the Calc AP exam is the 5th. If you’re not prepared for your AP’s by the prior Saturday, then you got a bigger problem on your hands.
I’m not quite sure how much more exhausted a 3rd hour long subject test would make you, but I agree, if you are planning on taking them, I would take them in May since you’re already preparing for AP’s.
