Should I talk about cheating in my College Essay??????

I’ve look for hours and can’t seem to find a similar question.

“Recount an incident or time you experienced failure. How did it affect you and what did you learn from the experience?”
Last year as a junior I plagiarized essays. I wrote two essays for two of my friends and we got caught. The whole ordeal was terrible, they wanted me to lie about it since Admin would have no real way to prove I wrote the essays, but I didn’t. Long story short they stopped talking to me because I told the truth. And I faced the consequences of my actions. That being said it was actually a learning experience and pushed me to start a tutoring club and and get rid of my toxic friend group. Now with all that being said, I wanted to know if this would be a good topic to write about or if it’d be seen by college admissions as taboo. I’m not sure if it’d be received as respectable and honest or yikes we don’t want them here kind of thing. Have any of you ever come across this type of essay??? And if you have what did you think about it??? I’m sure I’m not the only one this has happened too.

I expect if you were disciplined by your school, this is already going to be commented on (or at least marked on the recommendation form) by your GC.

That said, I would NOT use it for your essay. Don’t take the prompt too literally. You want to write an essay that makes them want to have you on campus. I’d skip this topic. Most students have a lot of different aspects to themselves that they can choose to present. I’d leave this one out of the essay.

But ask you GC if they will be revealing this in the documentation. If so, also ask if you should maybe include a BRIEF (paragraph, maybe) comment on it in the Additional Info section that you accept responsibility for your actions and have been making changes, and don’t ever plan to do anything like that again. If it is not on the form the GC is filling out, then certainly don’t mention it.

No. Academic dishonesty is an issue that’s taken very seriously by most if not all schools. I can guarantee you that mentioning this information will get you rejected.
