I'm applying to GW RD, sending in my app on Tuesday, and I've seen some horror stories about people who are above GW's 75% being rejected for using it as a safety school. It is a bit of a safety for me, not completely though, but at the same time, it's tied for my top choice.

I saw that most of these kids wrote that they were applying to HYPSM, Georgetown, etc, and that to protect their yield when they were clearly being used as a safety, GW rejected these applicants.

Aside from GW, the only other schools I applied to are Georgetown, American, Tufts, and Maryland.
This isn't nearly as threatening, right? Is it ok to write that, (I want to do international relations btw) or should I leave it blank?

I think my list of schools would show that I am using it as more of a target than a safety, right?

Please help lol I'm getting worried.
I did an info session/tour, if that helps.

i dont think it matters .
but just to be safe, dont put Gtown

i wouldn’t put down georgetown if i were you… the only other school i put was american i think

But wouldn’t it be kind of obvious that I’m applying to Georgetown? Think about it, what kid wants to stay in DC, study international relations, and only applies to American and GW? I feel like it would be better to be honest about it if it would be so transparent.

well personally i hated georgetown so i didn’t even bother applying, and i chose gw based on location and character

Yeah, I guess. But I think for someone applying to ESIA it might be a little different.

<shrug></shrug>

My daughter applied to ESIA, SIS at AU, and Tufts but not Georgetown. Her scores were similar to yours and her grades were a bit higher–she got into GW. As long as you’ve made a specific case for wanting to be at GW (not “in DC”), I don’t think you’d have a problem. (I think most of those kids are waitlisted, not rejected, and they tend to be truly ivy-caliber kids, from what I’ve seen.)

Be honest and list all of them. Also, you are not applying to HYPS, and GWU will assume that almost anyone applying to its Foreign Service Program will be applying to GU’s program. Plus, this might set you up for some aid if GWU knows that it is competing over you with other attractive schools.

Um, me? And many others who don’t want to attend a religiously-affiliated school?
