Hello!
Currently, I am in need of advice. I am a student at UCONN who was a transfer student this year. Unfortunately, the school is not what I anticipated it to be and it is incredibly expensive for an out-of-state student receiving no financial aid. Moreover, UCONN provides no community for the transfer students and just kind of throws them to the wolves (I had wretched roommates to begin with). I reapplied to my old school, the University of Minnesota, and was admitted to the College of Biological Sciences. Here is where I need advice. Is it worth it to transfer back to Minnesota or should I stay at UCONN? Also, I know that both schools are academically strong in the sciences but, I was wondering if one school is better than the other for a pre-med student. I am worried that I will make the wrong decision again and this process has caused me a lot of anxiety.
Why did you transfer from University of Minnesota in the first place? And what made UConn look better?
“I was wondering if one school is better than the other for a pre-med student.”
Oh golly! Both places are perfectly fine for a pre-med. For that you just need to cheapest place possible where you can get the best grades possible, good prep for the MCAT, and decent pre-med advising. Save your money for the horrendous cost of Med School.
I think that I transferred because UCONN seemed to be academically stronger and it was much closer to home. Consequently, I have been unhappy every since I got here.
So, would you say you were happier at Minnesota? If that’s the case, I would transfer back. I imagine it would be a fairly smooth transition since you have a record there already. Also, it’s cheaper and that’s always a plus.
I would definitely say that it took me a while to find my network that I felt happy with. I miss the school spirit and the athletic atmosphere. I’m just worried that I’ll make another mistake transferring.
From your original thread (when you were considering transferring to UCONN) it was clear that you were not happy attending the University of Minnesota, so I don’t think it would be a good idea to transfer back. I think the decision is really whether to remain at UCONN or to transfer to some other college where you will enjoy the rest of your undergraduate years. Give this decision plenty of thought, and I hope everything works out well.
Thank you for all of your advice everybody! I really appreciate it.
