Should I transfer or stay?

Hi, I'm new to the site and have no where else to seek advice from since my parents aren't being very helpful and I don't know how to go about this.
I'm enrolled at a public university, this august will be the beginning of my sophomore year.
I love the school, the place, the people, even the teachers. But I went to this university because it's what my mother wanted me to do- affordable and offers an array of majors she deems "acceptable". What I really want to do is go to a school with a decent film program. My mother wasn't supportive of this until she saw my grades from my first year- I have a 2.1 overall because I hated me major, which included a lot of classes that were not my strengths.

My mom is now supportive of me pursuing film since she'd rather have be doing well in a major I enjoy than poorly in a major I hate.

The university I go to only offers cinema studies as a minor...should I stay, major in something else, and take the film classes offered as a minor, or transfer to a school that offers it as a major?

Input would be greatly appreciated, please and thanks!

Pursue your interests. Find a program you’re satisfied with even if it means transferring schools. If you do decide to transfer, you have good reason.

first and foremost, you need to pursue the major that you want rather than what your mother wants. is film really something that you’re passionate about? i skimmed through your post so i got an overall perspective of your question rather than reading for details. transferring to another university is a time-comsuming and thoughtful process. honestly, the people on here can only advise you on what you should do. if film is what you absolutely want to pursue and the school you currently attend doesn’t offer it as a major then i would suggest transferring, but you need to truly make sure that this is the direction you want to go in.
