Should I transfer or stick it out at my current school?

I've been thinking about transferring but I'm not sure if I should or not. I would be fine staying at my current school and I would be fine leaving it, so I'm not leaning in one direction. I'm a current sophomore so I'm not sure if it's too late to transfer or not.

My reasons for wanting to transfer are:
1. My college doesn't have the major I want. I don't really like the major I have right now, but I don't hate it either. The college I want to transfer to has a MUCH stronger program in the major I want.
2. My college is really expensive since it's a private school and it's out of state so I lost all of my in state scholarships. The school I'm interested in transferring to (College of Charleston) is in state so it would be much cheaper.

My reasons for not wanting to transfer are:
1. I'm not sure if all of my credits will transfer so it might take me longer to graduate.
2. I'll have to leave my friends.

If money is an issue for you or your parents then financially you should switch. Especially if you are financing school now by taking on loans. That would be a weight around your neck for literally decades to come. It may even make it impossible for you to take low-paid or volunteer positions in your chosen field after graduation that are crucial to getting a start.

Changing schools to save money and get a major thats a better fit for you are good reasons to switch. As for leaving your friends, no way to sugar coat that. It is an issue, and depending on how social you are it may be more difficult to make a group of new friends than it was when every one was new to school as frosh. But plenty of CC xfers make the leap every year, and so can you.

If you are thinking of doing it, the time to act is now! Many colleges have rules against senior transfers, so the window may be closed for you after this school year.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.
