Should I transfer to my boyfriend's college?

I currently go to SUNY Oswego and am considering transferring to SUNY Geneseo. I'm a freshman and I would be majoring in accounting there.

I'm considering transferring because I like Geneseo's campus/town better, it has a better reputation, it's closer to home, and the weather isn't so bad. I've visited the campus many times and I've fallen in love with it. However, I'm not sure if the business school is as good as Oswego's. They also don't have as many majors as Oswego if I ever decided to switch, however, I don't think I will... Additionally, I haven't really met people I've clicked with here. I'm not extremely happy and I don't know if I can picture living here for another three years.

Also, my boyfriend currently goes to Geneseo. I don't want his presence there to hurt my social life. I like having my own space and I don't want to feel like I have to hangout with him all the time. And if we broke up, I wouldn't want it to be awkward. There's about 5,000 students at Geneseo so it's smaller sized.

Can anyone PLEASE give me advice on what to do? Is Geneseo's business school comparable to Oswego's? Are there good internship opportunities? Or would it be a mistake to transfer?

I don’t know the timing of transfer apps/acceptances, etc. but I suggest you give it one more year. You must have more gen ed requirements and lower level courses that will be comparable at both schools. You can explore a bit more whether the upper division classes/program is truly better at one than the other…you will also see if your relationship lasts- a year might make a huge difference either way. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to apply for a transfer for Fall 2015…you could then go or not but you would know you have the option.

I only have two gen eds I would need to fulfill at Oswego. Many of the upper division credits won’t transfer, I know because I already had to fight to get my gen ed/lower level courses transferred over. I’m not sure if I want to take the risk wasting another year here.
