to a university?

I'm a current senior in high school. I applied ED to NYU and didn't get in. Here are my stats.

GPA: 4.11 weighted 3.73 unweighted.
SAT: 1850 Superscored (they saw mine as 1800)
Great extracurriculars..4 year commitments and work experience.
Raised $1000 for my community service program.
First generation asian indian

i have a disability statement for chronic migraines. no legacy.

If i go to community, it'll be somewhat easy in terms of time..

Summer 2010: 1st semester
Fall 2010: 2nd semester

and then i can transfer. however does anyone know when i can apply? we dont get our grades till like jan 4. for the fall semester.

i already have 30 units before graduating hs.

if i dont go to community, i can probably get into pepperdine, loyola marymount, and maybe occidental. ive also applied to USC, brown, vanderbilt, (i know i wont get into ivies lol) chapman, northwestern, and claremont mckenna. also ppl say i have a better chance going from community to NYU rather than a university. so what should i do? ppl have gotten in as transfer with low hs stats and im kinda afraid they wont accept me for having high stats but idk. help?

PLEASE DONT GIVE SMART ASS ANSWERS. especially if ive posted some stuff similar to this. IDC.

If I were you, I would go to another university, and then try to transfer to NYU. After all, getting in as a transfer student isnāt a guarantee, and you might as well go to a school you would be happy at just in caseā¦

lol ur the first one thats said that. thats actually what i was thinking in the first placeā¦now im all mixed up. everyone else says that transferring from a community college is MUCH easier and u have a better chance of getting in. butā¦i really wanted to move out! lol so idk. my other choice that i know i will get into is pepperdine. thats also in malibu but it doesnt have the programs i was looking for. however, i can get general ed done there and its a nice location.

but im also having second thots about being on the east coastāwhere it is freezing cold. malibuā¦would let me go to the beach, swimming, etc. but idk what i would do in new york. it seems like all ppl can do is club, shop, or go to a broadway show. someone can expand on that to help! and tell me what else there is to do. oh and los angeles has theme parks.

NO, you do not have a better chance of getting into NYU from a community college.

why not?

what do u mean what other 4 colleges am i applying to?

NYU does not give preferential treatment to community college students, unless you are a resident of NY and going to a college that has a special program with NYU. (CCTOP, or another similar program.)

Likewise, in-state or out of state does not matter for NYU.

whats ur source for this info?

From when I was working in the Student Resource Center.

Also, from the Admissions Website:

The Admissions Committee considers a variety of factors in reviewing your application including the relative strength of your college program, your performance in those courses, your high school record, standardized test scores, your personal statements and application essay, letters of recommendations submitted on your behalf, and your activities both in school and in your community.

maan idk what to do anymore.

In all honesty, and not being snarky, just go to the school that you would be happy in, even if you didnāt transfer out to NYU or whatever. Whether itās CC, Pepperdine, or whatever. So even if you do not get accepted for transfer, you will still be relatively satisfied with your college experience. Donāt go to CC unless you see yourself happy there.

Make a plan, and then make a plan B, and then make a plan C.

There are people on the transfer student board on CC who tried to transfer THREE TIMES to their dream college, and they were denied three times. Transfer admissions is tricky. So plan to go to the university you like best.

okay thanx! yeah i couldnt wait to get out of this town but now that its come down to it, i might have to stay. but thats not so badā¦i can stay at home, the cc is a 5 min drive, and the campus is actually pretty nice. the only thing is that idk if they would have a lot of extracurricular activities like clubs. ppl are relatively friendly, ive made friends in almost every class ive taken even when i was like 14 and they were 20. lol and im petite so it shows my age. however some college kids are small too. plus i dont have to worry about food or anything cuz i can come home and eat.

it wouldnt be much of a hassleā¦im taking a summer semester anyways so that doesnt really count for me but it counts for nyu. i always do summer semesters there. and that means i have one more semester to kill, which would be during the fall and then im out. the downside is that ive probly wasted over 1000 dollars in applications or just about 1000. oh wellā¦i might get in somewhere thoā¦who knows. and i might change my mind in the future.

ultimately any college i choose whether its cc or pepperdine, theyre both excellent.

althooā¦my current gpa in cc is 3.46 or so and thats becuz ive been taking classes there while in hs simultaneously. yet, i know that if i took cc by itself i could get closer to a 4.0. will they take that into consideration? (and distinguish the classes ive taken after hs)?

someone just made a good point: if u transfer, u lose out on the freshman experience and dorm lifeā¦where u make ur friends. do U think u missed out on any of this or did u stay in dorms for community (since ur a transfer, u would know).

I think you had pretty good stats. Do you mind me asking why you think you didnāt get in?

and regardless of where you go next year I think you should try and tranfer (from a four-year or a CC)

lol yeah im gonna try. if i dont get in tho, im sure it wouldnt matter so much becuz ill probably like pepperdine if thats where i go. i meanā¦its in malibu and most ppl probly come for the beach! jk lol but thats what im hoping ill get into if not something better. i had my hopes up for NYU and then i was let down but oh well.

soo i think i didnt get in because my application lacked creativity as a whole. for instance, my short poem was pretty bland and i shudāve changed the topic. the person i would meet talked about why i chose her and not enough about what we would do. i saw one personās lady gaga paragraph and they made it VERY creative. they included song names by her into what they would do. like āwe are going to go downtown and ājust danceāā or sumthin better than that.

also, my essay was āuniqueā but i think my other essay was stronger in the sense that it was emotionally appealing. i can give u details in a PM if u want. and i know the other ppl on here would disagree with this (since they already have) but my teacher recs. werenāt as good as the ones i have now; they were short and choppy. the ones i have now are in great detail and really pick out what i did as a person.

i guess my stats werenāt really what got me rejected but it kinda sux to have worked this long and not get into my first choice lol but im not the only oneā¦as ppl said before to me. im kinda glad that im not the kid who got close to a 2400 and got rejected.

btw do u go to NYU? since u said i shud try and transferā¦jw

I stayed in dorms for community, even though I could feasibly commute.
