I’m transferring from my school because I want a smaller school with a more sophisticated student body, preferably with a more standard social culture (either all greek life, or no greek life).
So I was pretty set on transferring to Southern Methodist University, it’s perfect size, great location, great programs, and such a fun school. But I surprisingly just got into University of Richmond, it’s a similar culture to SMU but much smaller and with less diversity. I wonder if it would be difficult to transition into the social scene there especially because there are such few transfers in comparison to at SMU.
However, Richmond is known to be better academically. Being a liberal arts school I wouldn’t have as much varietal opportunites in regards to areas of study, there are more programs that appeal to me at SMU, but I’m guessing having Richmond on my resume would probably help me to get a better job and closer to home on the east coast.
My gut is telling me to go with SMU, but is it a mistake to go to a “worse” school, academically?
Would love to hear some thoughts. Thanks!
