Should I transfer to UCD?

Hi guys,
This year I applied to UCD for Biochemistry/Molecular Biology major and I was rejected. Davis was my dream school, and I was having some finaicial issues (parents retired, twin sister and brother going to college at the same time) so I appealed my decision and, was rejected again. My heart was broken for a while, but I’m thinking about transferring. What do you guys think?
High School Stats:
Unweighted GPA: 3.89 Weighted GPA: 4.2+ SAT: 1825

If you plan to transfer, then HS stats will not be considered. You can TAG to UCD and as long as you meet the TAG requirements, you are in. http://tag.ucdavis.edu

@DeadOfficePlants I seriously don’t understand how anyone with such high scores be denied. I was admitted with a 3.92 GPA and a 1280 SAT score (yes it was that bad). I got into UCD and I didn’t even do that much extracurricular activities nor clubs. Maybe it depends on the major? I got in for Psychology by the way.

Psychology is one of the most popular majors. Letters and Science admits by division rather than major though, so that could have something to do with it. Any of the biosci majors are insanely competitive, so unless you’re seriously at the tippy top of the applicant pool it’s starting to get unpredictable on who will get in to them.

Out of curiosity OP, how’d you get an 1825 on the SAT? Do they not only use increments of 10 anymore?

If Davis is your top choice, then absolutely you should consider starting at a CC and transferring. I would do what @Gumbymom suggested and fulfill TAG requirements while you’re there to make sure you can transfer. In addition, you’d save some money on tuition costs!

@PhantomVirgo
Sorry, I was estimating my SAT score it was around 1820+. Ty for input :slight_smile:

I will consider transferring, even though I will not be participating in any of their programs with guaranteed transfer from nearby committee college. What are my chances transferring from a CSU?

CC to UC is the best and preferred route since priority is given to CC applicants. CSU to UC is much more difficult since there are no good ways to see which CSU courses align with the comparable UC courses. I would post your questions in the UC transfer thread where there are many experienced posters whom could help. Good Luck.

@DeadOfficePlants Transferring from a CC would probably be a lot cheaper than transferring from a CSU if the issue is your financial standing.
If its not a big deal, then did you SIR to a school, perhaps a CSU since you mentioned it? If so you should really consider attending the school you have sent your SIR. I understand denial from your dream school is difficult but many people begin to fall in love with the school they end up attending so if money isn’t too much of an issue, I encourage you to attend the school that has admitted you.

What are your other options?

CC to UC is yout best bet. I’m transfering from SMC and you don’t want to know my hs gpa.

Definitely transfer. You had a great gpa in high school, so I don’t think tagging will be hard for you! Just stay on top of courses in cc, go beyond the required gpa, and try to finish as MANY requirements as possible. Davis is very strict about that and you’re applying for a competitive major as it is. Good luck! :slight_smile:
