Should I transfer?

^Even for colleges that use the CA, requirements can vary between schools (eg. # and type of LORs, whether or not test scores are required, etc.).

Just a question . . . would people’s opinions have been different if the school hadn’t been NYU? I notice NYU always gets a lot of bad press on CC.

Not at all I didn’t think about the school. It could have been a small liberal arts school, or a giant public school, matters not

Let’s see…I said go for it and transfer and I would have said that if you were at Harvard or any U. Most people said stay there, so why would you think that the “bad press on NYU” would make them tell you to stay? I don’t understand your logic on that at all. If everyone was telling you to leave because “nyu gets bad press on cc”, then you could question it. Most are telling you to stay.

Okay . . . update. Now my mom seems to think I should transfer.
It’s finals time here now, and I had tough course load this semester, so of course finals period is very difficult. I don’t think the problems I’m having are unique to any one school - professors/final exams being unreasonable, a lot of last minute work, etc . . . .
But I have developed a lot of, I guess, stress related symptoms like mouth ulcers (this is since high school though), stomachaches, and inability to focus. I slept for 8 hrs on Saturday and Sunday night, but on Monday I randomly fell asleep in my dorm room for 1 hr, when I’m usually never a person who takes naps. I was also completely unable to focus on studying for my upcoming final.

I just thought all of this was that I had reached my “limit”, and that while other people can take harder classes, oh well, I can’t. My grades will be lower this semester than last semester, but that’s because my classes are much, much harder than last semester. The grades themselves will balance out eventually.

My mom thinks that I am reacting this way because I do not like the subject or because I am unhappy or that I should transfer out. I don’t think that would change my stress level, and I love living in NYC and I generally like NYU. It’s not like I’ve been sitting in the library either when I have to study - I wrote an essay in Battery Park and studied for another final in an Upper East Side cafe.

Okay, now its almost 11 and I haven’t properly started studying for the day yet. I’m going to go try and do that now.

What was your social life like in high school? Did you enjoy your high school experience? I would be hesitant to recommend a transfer during freshman year when the reasons appear to be solely social concerns. You are in a terrific program at a globally recognized institution. You seem generally happy with the academic side of things and it might make more sense to give the social aspect more time. I noticed your cc handle and am wondering if you started NYU on a somewhat negative note.

Please ignore my CC handle, that was just a random name from sophomore year of high school. I did not at all have a negative attitude when starting NYU. I was never obsessed with any one school and I am very happy with the level/prestige/whatever of the program I am in. That is not a factor.

My high school was very small. I had good friends and I still message them somewhat regularly, but it was a small group. I did enjoy high school.

I do think it’ll get solved with more time, I guess I just got scared. In the time between these two postings I made a study guide for 3/10 “parts” for my final.

One issue I think I experience is test anxiety. I would be very grateful if someone could point me to online resources or tips to help with this. I’m not willing to go to counseling for this right now for a number of reasons, including that I have 0 time atm.

bump 10 char

Well I just googled test anxiety, there are a number of resources, here are two that I thought were useful fwiw:

[Tips for Managing Test Anxiety](How to Overcome Test Anxiety)

[More Test Anxiety Tips](http://www.wvup.edu/academics/more_test_anxiety_tips.htm)

Don’t transfer. You sound like you are in a good place. You are just a little more mature than the classmates in your group. They will catch up or you will gravitate into a new group. Keep up the good work.

I do think you should make an appointment with the counseling center even if you don’t have time to do it during finals. They can help you develop strategies for feeling better overall about your situation and to deal with stress/anxiety the next time it pops up.

Lots of students benefit from a little counseling in college since it is such a huge transition and there is a lot of pressure and stress without the student’s familiar support systems.
