I'm currently a freshman at Carnegie Mellon and I was very excited to get in initially (it was, I guess, my first choice at the time). However, although my experience here hasn't been that bad, I don't think I like it here. I am disappointed because I haven't found a group of friends and things have not been living up to my expectations. The campus feels too small for me and I would probably prefer going to a bigger school (and a larger city setting; Pittsburgh is run-down and not living up to my expectations). Additionally, I am currently undecided in HSS and I am at a TECH SCHOOL. WHAT AM I DOING.

My roommate is actually really good although it appears that she fits in much better than I do. I haven't really made "friends" (more like acquaintances) outside of some people on my floor and the swim team. While I don't mind alone time (I am an introvert), I would definitely just like to have one or two close friends. Unfortunately, I feel as though I have not clicked with anyone yet.

Perhaps I have set my expectations too high, but I feel like I don't fit in very well here. Although I originally said the school was my first choice, I am afraid that I have tricked myself into believing so because one of my best friends almost came here.

On the other hand, I gave up an extremely good offer from NYU to come here. I have dreamed of living in NYC my whole life, yet out of a gut feeling, I came to CMU. I literally cannot shake the notion of transferring to NYU--I've tried to stop thinking about it, but it repeatedly keeps popping up. I fell in love with NYU on my first visit and love the idea of independence (and of course) living in the Big Apple. I don't mind not having a campus; in fact, the idea of living on the city streets only makes me want to transfer even more. I am a fiercely independent person and like to do things on my own. I like the idea of being thrown into the real world. Additionally, since I am interested in communications/marketing/fashion, I think NYC would definitely give me better opportunities for those kinds of fields. If I were to transfer, I'd probably try for Stern.

That being said, do you believe I should try transferring after freshman year? I would honestly just like some general opinions/help. At the same time, it's only been two weeks...so perhaps my opinions are completely invalid.

Anyway, thanks for reading the rant (sorry for the length). I really would like all the advice/help I can get.
