Should I transfer?

Hi all! I am currently a pre-med student at Oxford College of Emory and lately I have been thinking a lot about whether being here is really worth my money. In all honesty I am here bc I didn't get into the main campus and since Oxford guarantees a spot in the main campus after two years I thought why not? I have enough credits to graduate early and get to the main campus in 3 semesters so I thought Oxford wouldn't be bad. But now I am thinking of transferring to maybe a cheaper school such as GA tech or UGA (I was accepted into both back in senior year) since I have been reading a lot of articles and discussions about how it doesn't matter to med schools where you do your undergrad and that Emory students don't really have any better chances of getting into med school than students from any regular school.

So that's the thing. Should I transfer? Do Emory students actually have any advantages in the med school game or are they at the same level as any other college student out there? Since Emory is in fact a harder school than most public schools out there (and Oxford is too believe it or not) maintaining a 3.5 or above GPA might be hard and since GPA is so crucial when it comes to applying to med schools shouldn't I just transfer to say UGA or tech where it will be slightly easier to maintain a good GPA? And it will also save money which can go towards med school tuition and fees.

I really need honest advice bc I am very confused about what to do. Continue on with Emory or transfer? Which choice would be better? What are the pros and cons of each option?

@Astudent2014‌ Uhmmm…it is not easier to maintain a high GPA at Georgia Tech unless you are say a biology major and. Emory is like Tech level content (I think better in biology and basic chemistry), but with grade inflation (also, even then, Tech is going to put you through brutal physics and math sequences which don’t exist at Emory. The only brutality is mainly in chemistry and also biol if at Oxford I guess). Also, Emory doesn’t get you into med. school. You do. Take good courses, do well, and do well on MCAT, and APPLY TO AN APPROPRIATE RANGE OF SCHOOOLS(yes I yelled intentionally)…boom, you have a reasonable shot of admission. Some folks on main forget this. Also, Emory has way more people applying than many schools. The numbers are higher than some public schools like twice or more the size.

Overall, if it is too expensive, then get the hell out of here. Go to UGA if you just have your mind set of pre-med, go to Tech if you are actually interested in science and are open to other options (just don’t expect a 3.5 easily from Tech, but you don’t need it as much for other options). So silly of folks to assume that all publics are easier than top privates. Total crap…Go to Michigan, Virginia, Berkeley, UCLA (ok, IMHO, I think this one is a little easier than the others), Chapel Hill, or Tech for pre-med and tell me what you think haha
