Should I transfer?

I’m currently in the last quarter of my freshmen year, and I feel absolutely miserable at this school. The campus is beautiful, but other than that, I really hate the city, I really dislike the people here and haven’t made one friend (all anyone cares about is Greek Life), I hate the apartment I’m living in, and overall I just feel so sad here. I really want to transfer, but I have a scholarship to this school, and can’t afford many other schools. There are only 6 state schools here in Oregon as well, and I only like 1 other, Portland State University. However, I don’t know if I should transfer or not; I can afford the school, but I feel like going to school in the city might be stressful. Additionally, I would be 5 hours away from my home instead of my current 3. I just feel so torn, because I absolutely hate it here, but I also don’t want to rush into Portland State just to escape, only to find out that I dislike it there as well. I feel so trapped. What are your opinions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It seems like you answered your own question. If you absolutely can’t afford to go anywhere else, as you stated, then you literally have no other options and you must stay where you are. I can tell you from personal experience that sometimes changing school makes all the difference. I thought I wouldn’t be able to afford my current school, but I applied anyway and it turns out they gave me a scholarship. Which actually made going to a private school cheaper than going to crappy public school I was going it. So, you never know with financal aid.

OP said that he can afford other schools, just not many.
