Should I try and gain admission into a 4 year university?

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if the forum community could help me settle a personal quandary.

I have always wanted to attend a 4 year university. Admittedly, I have never been the smartest guy. However, I worked hard in high school. I always took the hardest classes to increase my chances of attending a university. Several years later, all of my friends are telling me I have not done well enough to attend a 4 year university. They instead suggest a vocational program. I was wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to offer me a second opinion on this issue. The College I attend does not matter much. I just want to attend a 4 year university. I have no idea what I want to major in. I am not particularly strong at any subjects.

Thank you

Community college? I know some dumbasses (no offense haha) that are actually doing somewhat well at WCC. A good few transfer into an SUNY school, RU, UConn, whatever.

either 2 year CC and then transfer to 4 year or you can try to go straight into a 4 year.

Post some of your stats and we could help you out more.
btw. anyone that wants to go to college, is ABLE to go to college. So dont worry about not having the ability to :)

I’m afraid I don’t have very many stats to offer. My GPA is about 3.85. My school is in the middle of no where and no one has ever heard of it. I have a 32 ACT score. I have done some stuff around the school, but nothing really noteworthy. I guess I could check into some of my other stats as well in due time.

Thank you

Are you a ■■■■■? You can get into MANY universities with those stats.

My friends and family have all told me that those stats are very vanilla. Learning and university life have always been discouraged in my family. Neither of my parents went to college and they think it would be a waste of time for me. They don’t think I’m intellectual enough to make it there.

If you’re not ■■■■■■■■:

You and you family are very wrong. Look for any suitable college and apply, Im sure you’ll
make it.

If you’re not ■■■■■■■■:

tell your family that you outscored 99% of high school ACT test takers. that’ll tell 'em.
as for not being intellectual enough…there are kids with <3.0 gpa and 20 ACTs getting into college!!! why don’t you?

apply to a state school…no doubt you will get a scholarship if you tell them your story.

I don’t think he’s ■■■■■■■■ because he didn’t overexaggerate his stats.

Snapi314, I’m assuming you’re from the midwest. I suggest that you DEFINITELY apply to some 4 year universities. Apply to some of the bigger state schools in your area, but try to stay in-state if money is a concern.

I find this very hard to believe considering todays generation. Also your current environment you state as if your stats are far below others and peers who evidently know about universities requirements/ average because they state you have a better chance at vocational. I mean there is so many things that highlight this being hard to believe.

Well I’m sorta confused by when you stated " several years later", do you mean your no longer a high school student? If so, how long have you’ve been out of school?
