Hey everyone,

I got my SAT Subject Test results back. I got a 760 on my MathII and 770 on Physics, which is surprising since I usually find that I'm better at math.

Anyways, I signed up to take the November test. It was my first time taking the test in October, so it was an interesting experience. As far as schools go, I'm applying to MIT and Caltech, which require both of these.

For the MIT stats, I'm in the middle of the range for the science, but below the range for math. I'm not certain about Caltech's stats. MIT will accept the November date for Early Action, but Caltech will not.

With that being said, should I push off my decision type to regular for Caltech, and hope for better scores on the November SAT Subject Tests?

Thanks everyone!

Congrats on your excellent scores. I would not advise taking them again. Think of the big picture…

Neither of those schools lists test scores as “Very Important” decision factors.

They do list them as “Important”, but it is one factor of at least half a dozen.

Here is the thing with those schools…everybody has great grades and great scores. Think of a pile of applications that look exactly like yours and having to decide which 10% get the nod. Its not going to be because someone got a 780 instead of a 740.

Its going to be the app that stands out in some way. For tech schools, they look for good communicators and rounded individuals with some sort of hook.

@mitchklong Thank you for the advice! I’ve already registered for the November test, so canceling is no longer an option. But it’s reassuring to know that my current scores will serve me well in the application process!

Knowing that I am for sure going to take the November test, would you advice waiting on Caltech, or submitting my application as is?

Does anybody else have any thoughts? I’m trying to decide fairly quickly since the EA deadline is Saturday.
