Should I withdraw from ED II and instead apply RD?

Basically, I’m Emory or die rn. I regret not applying here ED1.

According to that thread, ED II has a 17.7% acceptance rate. Only 220 people out of 1244 got accepted. That is HORRID. Even the RD acceptance rate was higher. I’m scared I am shooting myself in the foot by applying to a pool with a lower acceptance rate. People tell me that the EDII pool is less competitive, but I’m not sure if that’s true because I feel like a bunch of phenomenal students who were rejected from the Ivy League/JHU/NU/ect ED1 might apply to Emory ED 2 - which means that it might even be MORE cutthroat competitive because those phenomenal students are being compared in a smaller pool…

Emory tries to keep it’s ED class less than 50%, so I’m afraid that since they accept a ton from ED1 that there isn’t a ton of space for ED2.

If you look at the old ED2/results thread, the stats were significantly higher than those accepted in the ED1 pool (tons of 2200+ SATs/33+ ACTs ) and a ton had phenomenal EC’s and were rejected or waitlisted.

I applied to Emory ED2 before the Emory Scholars deadline of November 15th, I worked really hard on my Emory supplement and focused a lot on the Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture Major, also citing the Voluntary Core, the Barkley Forum, ect.

bruh i would do anything for emory at this point lol

Huh? CC is not representative of the applicant pool…There is no doubt that RD gives them more “choice” with regard to stats and they take that chance and admit those with higher stats. You’re also competing with all those scholar applicants (many that have very high stats).

@bernie12

Ah, I see… Sorry to bother you again, but ED2 applicants have the same fair chance as those who apply RD for the merit scholarships, right? I feel like Emory might save the merit scholarships to entice RD admits who have options rather than using them on admits who are guaranteed to come anyway… Do you know anyone in Emory scholars who applied ED1/2?

Naw…they literally just want whoever is a great fit. Many(if not most) who get into HYP are not offered an interview for the scholars program. Doesn’t matter which round. I’m just saying that many of the scholar applicants are RD. These are the folks who feel as if they have pretty high stats and so will thus be admitted AND have a chance at the scholarship. I don’t know anyone but they likely exist. I think any bias comes from what I mention. The scholar applicants themselves are more likely to be RD. They aren’t going to dismiss the ED applicant that basically says: “I really want to come, but I could really use some money” vs. banking on yielding those who may not be that interested in the first place.
