Should low academic performance prevent you from applying to top schools?

Agree with decrescendo. There’s a mix. Some kids ARE obsessively knowledgeable, but we almost never hear from them beyond their chance threads. Then there are the well-informed and well-prepared ones. These are the kids to whom I think decrescendo was initially referring. Whether they choose to go Ivy or not, they know quite a bit.
As for the woefully unprepared, they come and go as quickly as the obsessively knowledgeable.

OP: Once again, agree with decrescendo. Successful people can come from any college. Find one where your stats are within the average and where you feel you’d fit in. Good luck!

Yes, I’m very serious. The majority of kids telling others they will get into ivies are incorrect.

It is relative though, so I get your point. I’ve worked at a college counselor in a variety of high schools from highly affluent ones to inner city. The wealthy kids had a clue, but they, like many here thought anyone with a 4.0/2300 would get in. They didn’t under the subtleties…the competition from the region, the competition within their school, that much more is expected from the affluent, that what would get a kid from ND in won’t get one from NYC in.
