One reason to take AP exams if you are bound for a large public school is that entry level required classes are sometimes hard to get enrolled in and students sometimes experience frustration getting their required courses. Having AP scores under your belt can sometimes open up more options in terms of course offerings. Maybe you get out of that English 101 class that everyone needs and is hard to register for and can take an upper level elective class for credit instead. So even if you aren’t trying to pile up a lot of credits, they can still give you flexibility that you wouldn’t otherwise have had.
