Should senior take SAT just for future reference?

Can confirm. I was never asked my SAT scores when applying for an internship or FT job. I don’t think I remember what my scores were.

Maybe it’s different with COVID and/or in @roycroftmom 's neck of the woods, but I don’t recall having an abundance of free time a a HS senior.

Good catch

As @roycroftmom indicated, it tends to be field specific. It’s common in some finance fields.

We quit taking SAT scores for Mensa in 1994 when it no longer correlated with IQ.

If we move out of state (CA), he would likely have to transfer because we can’t afford to pay out-of-state tuition. Given the uncertainty, would it not be better to have an SAT score, along with college grades for a transfer application?

Oops, didn’t mean to tag NYU Tisch.

Yes, my husband works in Silicon Valley and was also asked about his SAT score for his first tech job. It is a possibility, although I and probably most people never have had to deal with it.

This may not necessarily be the case. If the student graduated high school in California after three years of attendance, then AB540 provisions may apply: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/tuition-financial-aid/tuition-cost-of-attendance/ab-540-nonresident-tuition-exemption.html

It also looks like California residency is checked only at initial enrollment at a campus or returning after a leave of absence: The process for determining residency | Understanding residency for purposes of UC tuition

Absolutely. My son is majoring in a technical field. In his case, a high score might give him a boost in a competitive market or transfer college.

Oh, wow. I didn’t know about this. Good to know, thank you!

Silly debate. Take the test if you want, don’t if you don’t. It is unlikely to make or break any application, but every little bit might help. Those of us who did not attend the country’s best boarding school usually have lots of time Spring of senior year; many took off completely after January 1 applications were submitted and barely attended class thereafter. An afternoon of testing was no big deal.
The competition for some internships is fierce, and I do not know why one would not take every opportunity for an edge, but people differ. Many Ivy League students admitted this year had test scores @lindagraf. Those who do not will find other ways if needed. Or like @skieurope, they may be interested in jobs where scores never come up. Hard to predict the future.

@skieurope can the NYU TISCH tag be removed?
