Can seniors take the SAT in the spring?

I searched the threads and can’t find an answer to this question.

My son is a home schooled 12th grader. He took the SAT for the first time in Nov. and scored 560 in CR, 460 in Math, and 600 in Writing. I bought him a “complete” SAT study guide not realizing the difference between that and an “official” SAT study guide until he retook the test in Dec. and received basically the same scores. He’s working through the BB now and is progressing well. He wants to apply to a local state college so he can live at home, but the SAT range (CR + math) (mid 50%) for our state colleges is 1090-1240. I think that score is attainable, but I’m not sure he can increase it that much by the end of January. He’s working through the CB online study guide too, so I’m sure if we could delay the test until the March 8th date he’d see a much larger increase in his score than if he takes it in a couple weeks. Delaying the test would also provide the opportunity for real learning to take place, which can only help him in the long run. Our state schools RD deadline is April 1st, which may be cutting it too close for him to apply this year, but we have local community colleges he could attend this fall if that’s the case. He’s not sure what he wants to study, so that may be a wise option. But our state schools require SAT scores from transfer students too, so he’ll still need to retake the SAT. I’m just wondering if it will count against him if his SAT scores are dated in the spring of his senior year.

Thanks.

As long as the schools receive his scores BEFORE the application deadline, I don’t see why not! Sending all the scores probably wouldn’t be a bad idea if the colleges he applies to “super score” the tests (take the highest score from each section, from any test sent). You could probably send the scores he already received, if you haven’t done so, and just send the future scores once they come in.
I don’t think admissions counselors really look at the grade in which applicants took the tests. :)
