Hi.
Now I am studying at santa monica college with 4.0 GPA.
Apply status: Accept, UCSD for computer science.
rejected, UCLA for computer science and engineering.
Igetc: unfinished
I reached out ucla for the reason that I was denied. They said I am having 4 major course in process this spring, which is Differential Equation, Linear Algebra, Electricity and Magnetism with Lab, and Critical Analysis and Intermediate Composition.
Reason to stay one more year:
1. I still need to take 5 more course to finish my GE pattern
2. I can take 3 more computer science course at CC, even though they are not required for transfer, These 3 course may help me finish low division CS courses after I transfer.
3. tuition is cheaper compared to UC
4. next year, I will be more competitive and very likely to get into UCLA
I appreciate all the inputs.
Thank you!
Definitely should. Maintain ur good gpa tho.
I am still struggling to make a decision. Cut for cs ranking , ucla and ucsd almost the same.
I wouldn’t stay just to go to UCLA, UCSD is a great school and you’re already in
The only reason I’d stay is because your GE reqs will be cheaper at CC
How long have you been at a CC and how much money can you handle transferring now? Just like @FaithGraceUC said, it’s cheaper to do your GE requirements at your CC. I’m transferring from a CC and going to UC Davis this fall. I’ve finished all pre-reqs and almost all lower division (just missing 1 course) and I’m still paying ~$30k/yr which is a lot. Imagine paying that much and having to pay a little more because you didn’t finish your pre-reqs at a CC.
Since you posted a bunch of reasons to stay one more year and no reasons not to I think you know where your heart lies.
That said, the computer science program at UCSD is fine. I don’t think your opportunities will be that much better if you go to UCLA, But of course neither me nor anyone else has a way of knowing that for sure.
You should also think about the opportunity costs. An extra year in college is going to cost you 70K to 100K or more in lost income since you could’ve been working instead of studying. If you value the UCLA name that much then you know the right choice for you.
