I assumed that federal aid was the uniform throughout every school, public or private. However, it seems that my public universities awarded me a $2,200.00 Pell Grant while Wake Forest awarded me one that was only $1,300.00. I checked through the Federal Government's online website site, and on its chart my EFC correlates to the $2,200.00 award. I called Wake about this and they said it might have something to verification of my income, however, all my schools asked for my parent's tax returns. I am planning to appeal their FinAid on different grounds, but should I also appeal the Pell Grant award? How should I go about showing their amount is wrong?

The Pell grant should be the same everywhere. Formula = 5350 - EFC = Pell.

Thank you. Should I contact the school and ask for an appeal?

This is not correct at all. For a start off the maximum EFC to be eligible for the Pell is 4619. The Pell is awarded based on a table where the EFC is in bands of around 100. 0 EFC = $5350 Pell, 1-100 EFC = $5300 Pell, 101-200 EFC = $5200, up to the final band that tops out at 4619 with Pell of $976. EFC of 4620 = $0 Pell.

To the OP - I would expect your Pell to be the same at all schools. I wonder if your school is still working from the old tables? Was the FA offer a recent one or one you have had for a while?
