Should the UCs cut down on enrollment?

3.7 GPA at CC is really, really easy, especially in non-science majors. I got a 4.0 there for 2 years and I consider my 1 semester of 4.0 at Berkeley a larger accomplishment.

Remember that the CC transfers enter with all of their GE and (usually) major prereqs completed. Having a high amount of transfers allows the university to focus on upper division courses instead of wasting their resources on basic classes.

Not quite the way to view it. Many humanities and non-math-y social science majors have very few lower division requirements, and sometimes those can’t be taken at CC (e.g. Classics majors almost never can get the Greek they need at CC and only a few CCs offer Latin; other example, Anthropology majors have only three LD requirements, the rest of their major requirements are all UD).

As a result, many transfers come in with 40/+ of the required major units waiting for them, to be completed within four semesters. It is not that they can focus on their UD courses, it is that they very little time to actually take anything other than their major

Nah. I’ve taken classes at a supposedly good community college in the South Bay and trust me, it was not hard to get A’s. As long as you can physically go to class during exam time and maintain a pulse while you’re there, you’re guaranteed an A, at least an A-.
