Should you send your first test scores or wait until you take the test again?

My D (a junior) took the SAT in November. She took it with no prep/ studying, just to see how she would do, so didn't sign up to have her scores sent anywhere. It turns out she did pretty well, putting her in range of the schools she's most interested in, for most, in that 75-25 range and for a couple, at the very top of that, or even a little above that 25%. if she takes it again, there is a good chance she would improve in at least 2 of the sections.
In reading the admission policies of most of the schools she's considering, they want all your test scores anyway. One school specifically says it is a good idea to send them scores as you get them, but I am not sure if they really mean to do that as early as mid junior year. I know some schools also track interest, and I would think sending your scores certainly shows interest. So, should she send her current scores to some schools now, or just wait until she gets another set of scores...assuming she retakes?

If you are sure that she can improve on those sections, i think she should re-take the test and then send both together. Otherwise, if she ain’t retaking, you might as well send them now. (if colleges track interest)

If she improves, colleges will note the struggle and hard work she underwent so it totally depends upon you.

PS - you should give SAT at least twice in my opinion.

shoboemom, my kid (a junior D) also took the SAT when your daughter did…and we’ve been having similar questions. In our case, she scored a 1980 and she (and me, truthfully) thought that she would do way better than that (based on old PSAT scores & other items) so she is looking for colleges not to find out about them until she’s taken it a 2nd time. She’s not sending them anyway (she left that section blank) but i’m wondering if (actually, how) colleges find out that you took them. And whether a “2nd” result can be sent in as a 'only" result.

Yes, second result can be sent back as the only one but many require all.
If you send them only 1, automatically, old test reports will also be sent to these colleges

I say wait. For me, I took them a first time and scored a 1980 (which is way below what I thought I would get). I retook after studying a bit and scored a 2240, then I studied more and scored a 2330. In my case, it was good I didn’t send my first one, because it would’ve been a big blemish for some of the schools I’m applying to.
