Siblings count as legacy for ED CAS?

My brother graduated from the college of engineering as a CS major last May. I applied ED to Arts and Sciences; does this count as a legacy or benefit me in any way?

As it is, I applied with a 2230 SAT (680 CR + 800 M) and have an 800 on the Math 2 and Physics SAT 2s
About the same ECs as my brother had in high school and solid essays

What would my chances be? Thanks

I’m not sure. But I think it would count a little bit. Not as much as a parent legacy though. You have a good/solid chance of getting in. However, the applicant pool today is much more competitive than it was 5 years back.

Sibling is not a legacy. You can mention it in your essay to show your connection to Cornell and “Why Cornell.” There are many siblings at Cornell. Both of my kids went to Cornell and they were not legacies.

When my younger kid wrote about “Why Cornell,” she mentioned many events she attended at Cornell and people she met at Cornell. It showed she knew Cornell well and why she wanted to attend.

A former Cornell adcom did a great Q&A on Reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/3fmqfm/hi_im_nelson_ure%C3%B1a_i_am_a_former_admissions/

For siblings, she said: “Lastly siblings are not really considered legacy but if you mention that you have a sibling that has attended or is currently attending the school to which you are applying then it provides additional information to the admissions office. The officer reading your application will be able to pull up your sibling’s transcript and see if they are doing well at the school. If they are doing well then it will provide a positive bit of feedback that you might be as studious as your sibling and that your sibling might be able to provide information that would help you succeed at that university.”

So I guess it can’t hurt unless your brother did really poorly.

Edit: hmm didn’t realize the link would get censored. Just fill the stars in with reddit

^ and that applies to many top colleges, regardless of whether sib is an official legacy. But note oldfort’s bit: her D2 knew why she wanted Cornell, wasn’t looking for a tip ‘just because.’ Good.

I did briefly mention my frequent visits to Cornell and his convocation ceremony in my supplement. My brother had a GPA above the average for his major and has a decent job in the city now. Would that be favorable for me?
