Siena College or SUNY Oneonta

I've been accepted to both Siena College and SUNY Oneonta and im wondering which is the better option. How is the social life at each of these schools? I will be studying business. What are the academics like? Which is a better school to set me up with a job after college?

Hi Congrats on your acceptances. It is terrific to have choices.

My S graduated from Siena a few years ago and he had a good experience. Many of his friends were business majors and have done well post graduation. The academic environment is very supportive but structured. My son made many friends that have stayed in touch, now a few years post graduation. There is joke about Siena grads marrying one another.

Complaints I heard:
Since Siena is a Catholic school, some of the rules are stricter than other schools.
There are many required “core” courses beyond those for a major and some students don’t like that.
Siena is more expensive then public school - a number of his friends are struggling with student loans that exceed 60K.

Siena is much more expensive than instate or out-of state Suny. I don’t know anything about the SUNY school but although I am glad my son went to Siena, it is hard to believe it is worth twice as much as a SUNY.

Instate Suny Oneonta 14,000
Out of state Suny Oneonta 24,000
Siena 38.000

They are both very good and comparable schools.

As far as the Business schools or majors are concerned–Sienna is AACSB accredited. SUNY-Oneonta is in the process.

As far as cost of going is concerned–SUNY will most likely be cheaper, especially for in-state students.

Both have beautiful campuses.

You should probably spent a day/night at each campus to get a feel for the social life. Sienna is near Albany, a bigger city than Oneonta.

Sienna is also a religious school. SUNY-O not at all.

so good luck. Both are good choices.
