** I know my EC's suck, but I'm trying to get them up Junior/Senior year

** School doesn't rank, but I have one of the higher GPA's, top 10%, maybe top 5% (school isn't very competitive, nice school district but not many kids go to Ivies)

** I have not taken any SAT's yet but I did get a 191 on the PSATs, which I know is very low but I did not study for the test at all, and also had never taken any sort of test like it. Since, I have been studying rigorously for the SAT's which I will take next year. MY score will definitely improve from the PSAT- SAT predicted score of 1910.

** I'm not sure what I'd like to major in, both History and Nursing interest me. I'm between like high school history teacher and nurse, random I know haha.

** I am Hispanic, not sure if this helps my chances?

** Female, from Pennsylvania

So, assuming all goes well (Straight A's, 5's on all AP Exams, successful EC involvement, raised SAT Score) what are my chances at Princeton?

Other schools i like:

Villanova
Duke
UNC
Loyola Maryland
Georgetown
Yale (for my dad but I'd like to go :/)
Pepperdine
UCLA
Pomona
UPenn
Penn State (scholarship? My dad makes a lot of money ef's it all away, currently paying for college entirely by myself, dad makes $200k+, not a candidate for financial aid, right?)

Could you chance me please and also recommend schools that would be a good fit? And perhaps schools that would give me any scholarship?

Thank you!!

Based on all of your assumptions I assume you will get in for sure. And for Princeton you should also apply for some aid I assume you might get something even with your dad’s income. I also assume that the earth is flat, but thats just me.

^ Don’t know what’s up with them…

But anyway  you don’t have an amazing chance, but neither do you have no chance. I would say that it is imperative for you to get at LEAST a 2250 on your SATs. You are right on the border of getting in/not getting in. You don’t really have anything spectacular except for your URM status. So I would say give it shot… But I would not count on getting accepted if I were you.

P.S. A fellow Pennsylvanian :), East or West if you don’t mind me asking?

EDIT: Another negative…your ECs are a bit inconsistent. Perhaps list them in this way so we can get a better pic

X EC (9,10,11)
Y EC (10,11)

^ Them be havin yonder multiple personality disorder, y’hear?

^ Haha I have to agree…it does come off that way…

My bad, I really DO NOT have a multiple personality disorder, well sometimes, but most of the time not, I don’t really know, you know what FINE I DO HAVE A MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER, OKAY?!!?! Bye now  have a lovely day

P.S. Bottom line with the Chance Me… Not an amazing chance. But if you get your SATs up, that + URM means that you should at least give it a shot.

Could someone give me an idea regarding my daughter’s chances of getting into Princeton? We have visited quite a few schools and just went to see Princeton and it blew her away. She goes to an average public high school.Has always taken the most difficult classes they offer. She is entering her Junior year. Her unweighted average is about 98-99% and her weighted is about a 105%. She is a member of National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, English Honor Society, Science Honor Society. She also belongs to our International Club, and Robotics club. Robotics is a passion of hers and she holds an officiers postion in the club. She is a Girl Scout working on her Gold Award-comparable to Boys Scout Eagle award. She has played piano and performed in NYSSMA festivals for past 6 years. She is an active member of our local church and has been an Altar server since she was 8 years old. In sophmore year at our school they offer a practive PSAT and Practice Act and guidance said that her scores indicate she would get at least a 2000 on SAT and a 34 or 35 on Act. She scored a 3 on The euro AP test and a 595 on Chemistry SAT II. She also has a partime job and works about 12-15 hours a week. She also tutors kids in her high school for free. I know its hard to tell without actual SAT or ACT scores -but does she have any chance at all?

^ Tell her to do just the ACT considering she’s scoring pretty high on that.
3 on AP Euro isn’t that good…595 on SAT Chemistry is pretty bad…sorry
Her EC’s are also not that good either. They are very scattered.
I do not think that she has a good chance of being admitted into Princeton, unless she gets a 34+ on the ACT and/or 2250+ on the SAT; 5’s on AP’s (at least 5 AP classes); scores 750+ on at least 3 SAT II subject tests (she NEEDS to take Math IIC as one btw); and really concentrates her EC’s into one obvious passion.

Is a 595 on the SAT II Chem even possible? haha

Dear TRUFFLIEPUFF- thanks for your honest advice- we know that it would be a one in a million shot. Also thanks for the kind way that you stated it. Dear ashwinb- the 595 was about what I thought it was give or take-it actually was a little higher- what was your reason for laughing- do you enjoy putting people down?

No, one’s SAT score can only be in increments of 10, making a 595 impossible. That’s why it’s slightly humorous. Peeps need to chill out.

OP- Princeton does not have a nursing program so be sure to check out the actual majors available at the colleges that interest you. Until you raise your SATs, your chances for Prinecton, Yale, Duke, Pomona and Georgetown are zilch.

i think you have a great chance! DON’T GIVE UP! Apply and pray and see what happens. If not, the other schools on your list are also great. The University rankings are not important, you need to feel happy at the college you are attending. Harvard students, always tell me “DO NOT COME TO HARVARD FOR THE NAME!” it is a very love hate school.

^^The OP needs great test scores to get in that ‘great chance’ territory. While your enthusiasm is refreshing, Fly2, the OP needs to put in more hours of test prep for that praying to work.

no chance-not enough A’s, those AP scores are too low, and those EC’s are WEAK!

Are you prepared to destroy yourself senior year? I’m taking 5 ap classes, plus one honors, and no study hall, and I feel like ripping out my hair. I don’t recommend it.

While I’m sure you’re not, but based on your current information, you look one-dimensional. You recognize the importance of high test scores and GPA, but your view on ECs appears to be a list of chores rather than reflect serious passions and interests. I would highly recommend to you and other prospective applicants to take this time as an opportunity to focus on a select few activities that you are passionate about (and hopefully good at). I’m not questioning your Church work, and I’m sure there’s a lot more to you than what you write on a public forum, but you need something far more substantive over the next two years. Two years from now, you want to be able to express in your application essays a strong balanced individual that would succeed at Princeton AND be able to back up your character impression with your quality commitments outside the classroom.

Good luck
