Significance of SAT Subject Tests in Fall 2021 application cycle.

I am a rising senior applying in the Fall 2021 application cycle. For my SAT subject tests, I have a 780 Math II and 750 Chem, both of which I took as a sophomore.

As I would like to apply to selective colleges, I know my scores are not ideal (~70 percentile). However, due to extenuating circumstances during the pandemic, I don’t think I will have time to retake them before I apply.

But considering that so many schools were originally optional for SAT subject tests, and with almost all schools test-optional this year, is it correct to assume that the significance of SAT subject test scores are quite low now? Even if my scores are not optimal, should I consider reporting them (initiative/effort kinda vibe) or just omit them as part of the test-optional?

I do plan on reporting SAT/ACT scores as they are solid.

Thanks!

Keep in mind that the percentiles for Subject Tests are among a very select group that takes those tests. 780/750 may be below average for MIT and Caltech, but it’s fine pretty much anywhere else.

Yes, Subject Test scores have always been fairly minor inputs into the decision process, and probably less so this year, for a subject of a couple dozen schools. But they can serve as additional input and a “tie breaker” in some cases.

“Selective” colleges can cover a range of schools. Outside of MIT/Caltech, I’d go ahead and submit them.

Agree. (Plus, MIT and Caltech are both blind to subject tests for this fall and going forward.)
