I’m a senior applying to MIT, Stanford, Caltech, and maybe Princeton. I’m taking the Math Level 2 and Chemistry subject tests tomorrow. I just took two practice math 2 tests and got a 730 then a 760. Assuming that’s close to how I score tomorrow, how much does that hurt my application? I know lots of admits get an 800. I want to do aerospace engineering. My ACT composite is a 35 with a 36 on math and I’m a National Merit Semifinalist. I got a 5 on the Calc BC exam but a 4 on Chem and will have a 5.0 weighted GPA, likely 4.0 unweighted. So, I have pretty good scores, but I’m worried about these subject tests. How big of a factor are they in admissions to elite schools?
How do you think you did on Chem subject test taken on 10/1/16?
I believe that most colleges (including elites) put the greatest emphasis on GPA, ACT/SAT (the long one), and letters of recommendations. You have the first two in the bag and it seems like you can grab some pretty nifty letters, so you’re off to a great start.
Getting 750+ on the subject tests is good for super-elite colleges/program, but even if you fall in the 700-750 range, you will still be a competitive applicant if you keep excelling at other areas.
