I'm an incoming first year, and I'll be attending Orientation Session H (the last session), since I live a great distance away from VA. Anyways, I was curious about registering for classes late, and how much more difficult it will be to get in to certain classes. I was informed that I will be able to register online via the SIS beginning August 1st, but I was wondering if anyone else had gone through the same situation of registering for classes later than most students. If so, did you have any problem getting into the classes you wanted? Also, did you have trouble getting the professors that you wanted?

Thanks

The system is set up so that persons on the last registration date are not supposed to have more difficulty getting into classes than people who register on the first date. It is actually is more important what time of day you are given to register, but you can’t control that. Have a long list of possible classes, and keep in mind that some openings will occur later - many people get into classes through waiting lists.

Also, remember that if you don’t get into a class this semester - you will have plenty of chances later to take that class, and that it will be much easier as a second year to get into the most popular classes than as a first year.
