^My D had the exact same reaction to Whitman and Walla Walla. She’s still loving it as a current senior. Forty-plus years ago I fell for the view from the War Memorial at Amherst.

D loved Rice’s way of “sorting” Freshmen into different dorms/houses similiar to Harry Potter.

University of Alabama…Walking across the quad hearing people randomly say “Roll Tide”. D loved the fact that every student I talked to said “yes ma’am” and no ma’am". Not the norm in Chicago.

I thought the Adirondack chairs on the lawn of Lehigh looked so inviting! And the bowling alley at WPI would have been an added bonus, but now it’s being torn down. :(

At Emory, S3 liked the fact that the dorm we visited had a sink in each dorm room, so you could wash up or brush your teeth without trudging down the hall every morning…

Aesthetics in general were huge for me. I looked for architecture, trees, an abundance of open spaces, etc.

Little things colleges had interested me. For example, at Greensboro College some of the trees have outlets! Students were sitting outside with their laptops plugged into the trees!

I really loved colleges that have traditions. Greensboro had no stepping on the seal in the main building, or you won’t graduate on time. The same was true with the clocktowers at Western Carolina University and UNC-Greensboro. My favorite may be at Appalachian State, where rubbing the “Founder’s Bell” gives you good luck on exams.

And lastly, I thought it was so cool that both Appalachian and Western Carolina brought their freaking MARCHING BANDS for us at Open House. And that Western Carolina and Lenoir-Rhyne were sympathetic to the fact that it was freaking early and gave us free breakfast.

icedragon: Tufts?

Nope, University of colorado at colorado springs. It sits atop a big hill. In my dorm I could see the city at night :)

Oh gosh, I have so many.

University of Puget Sound - the rainy day, the circular drive and fountain, the new glass science building, the tiny blackbox theatre, the huge bone collection, the 4 elements as themes in the booklets

University of Washingston - THE SUZZALLO LIBRARY!, the fountain, the view of Mt. Rainer

Swarthmore - lawn chairs, the endless pathways, the outdoor woodsy amphitheatre, the tiny dining hall

Wesleyan - the hideous music department buildings, the HUGE GYM, the main street charm,

Yale - attractive tour guides, attractive people all over, THE LIBRARY, quads and arches and quads and arches

Pomona - the weird outdoor pavilion that changes lights

UC Davis - eggheads, but I think these are also on the Berkeley campus, oh and the bikes everyhwhere

UChicago - The Regenstein Library, the Harper Memorial Reading Room, the QUAD, Scav!, old-fashioned lamposts, house system and phoenix mascot and gothic architecture = most like Hogwarts school, Phoenixing, House meetings (required weekly study breaks and the RA’s bake cookies), my counselor’s name is Callie and she is the rep from CA, weird essay prompts, 3 other people that were in the dorm knew the song “River Flows In You” on piano, $1 milkshakes on Wed., and so many more!

I hope you get enjoyment still from looking at the same view on the AmhCam.

It seems the camera has gone a bit askew!

D fell in love with something at many of the schools visited

Oklahoma- all the gardens and the beautiful Library room gorgeous hand carved wood everywhere.

Alabama- the Campus friendliness and the layout

University of Wisconsin- the lake being right there

A&M - the traditions

SMU- the quad area/

DS fell in love with Alabama because of the beautiful girls, the prominent Greek system, the beautiful girls, the quad, and in case I forgot to mention, the beautiful girls. :)

Minnesota: the tunnels, one of the libraries (can’t remember the name, it was old and fancy on the east bank), the river

Wisconsin–when you order ice cream, it’s always a big serving. Even more so in the dorms where a “small” serving is huge (and $1.39 :D).

But more seriously, sports games, school spirit, women, the lake, the look of some of the old Lakeshore dorms, trails near campus where you can get peace and quiet, and a gym nearby.

PackMom…Add my D to the list who critiqued each football stadium. She loved the ones that “went all the way around.” She really liked UVA’s because as she said, “Even the football stadium matches the architecture of the rest of the school.” (Architectural cohesion/uniformity was a big thing to her.) She also liked the campuses we visited that had at least one street facing the school that was filled with restaurants/shops. She liked the fact that at UVA and Vanderbilt, she saw kids wearing Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, etc. (some of her favorite designers), and she really liked how a subset of the Cavalier band played the fight song on the lawn at Days on the Lawn (lots of tradition/school spirit). Lastly, she liked how there were TONS and TONS of kids jogging, playing tennis, soccer, frisbee, etc. I would agree with the label that UVA is one of the fittest campuses in America.

When we went for the preview day, the school’s a capella singing group performed. My D fell in love with them and even my son enjoyed the program. She is now the director of that group.

Sushi bar in the dining commons!

Oh, and this isn’t “silly,” but I’m a sucker for a good student union. Appalachian has an AWESOME student union. Student run coffee shop, lots of places to chill and study, it’s really the center of campus life. Western Carolina basically had just a food court. BAD.

I also love sustainability on campus. Guilford College’s dual-flush toilets were like the coolest thing ever (turns out App has them too, lol), and I also loved that Appalachian State has their own windmill. I also loved hearing that Western Carolina and Appalachian require all new buildings to meet LEED Gold certifications.

SJRcalderone–we love that sushi bar too!!

My daughter loved that the library at Princeton was huge and much of it was underground.

never feeling so invigorated as I did when I fountain hopped throughout stanford’s campus at nearly 1 AM
