When we visited the last of my daughter’s potential schools on admitted student day (this school was the parents’ choice application so she wasn’t all that interested), she saw a group of very attractive young men tottering across campus on sexy, slinky red pumps. They looked simultaneously ridiculous, adorable and good-natured which really made her day. Everything else fell into place on that day and we made the deposit on the spot.

Brandeis had dual flush toilets in the Admissions Office building and that was definitely a plus for me too. I loved the look of the new student union there but my son did not take to it at all. http://images.brandeis.edu/45/1031164195106.jpg

One thing I found to be a huge perk with the college I chose to transfer to was the variety of things to do, places to eat, and good coffee shops. I’m from a small town with next to nothing, which I always hated, so the chance to be in a city definitely sparked my interest. I didn’t choose my college solely because of that, but it’s definitely one of the reasons I’m excited to attend.

24 hour Starbucks attached to the library!

I don’t know if it’s silly but we went to a summer preview at Hopkins a few weeks back and all DS has been able to talk about is the da Vinci machine and that undergrads get to use it. He seems quite intrigued that they used it to solve a Rubics cube.

The Humans vs. Zombies game going on when he visited RIT.

UW (Washington) apparently has that human/zombie thing to the point that students UNinvolved and some profs were complaining about having too many people jump out at them and pretend to attack. It made the local news. I don’t know if they toned it down or not-maybe the next one hasn’t come around yet. Sounds like a fad that’s had its time.

Momsings – now how do you know to which college sushi bar I was referring? ;)

When we made a visit to American University, we stopped in the student union (TDR?) for some coffee and a bagel as we were very early.

S3 saw three young men playing cards at about 7:45 am…one was in a suit and tie, one was in jeans and one was basically in pajamas. My son loved that vignette…he commented that he could have been any of the three.

He loved everything else he say that day and ended up applying ED even though AU was pretty much a match/safety school for him…he wanted to make sure that was where he ended up/

He is now a rising senior at AU and wishes he didn’t need to graduate next May.

Another great thread!
I know someone who liked Bloomsburg because it sounds like Bloomingdales.

D11 Is at a smaller state university, Grand Valley SU. She fell in love with the honors housing. So much so that she only applied there… No where else. (There were lots of other reasons too… one of the few schools with the program she wanted to apply to.)

D14 will have a much different path as she auditions for BFA MT programs. She’s trying NOT to fall in love with anything until she knows her options after auditions next year… But she loves campuses with older buildings with character.

In speaking with DS tonight about various things he told me another reason that he really liked this school. Seems that when he had an overnight they talked about why an all-male school is great. The answer: no showers necessary until Friday. While I cringe while I write this, I once went to a play at his campus on a Wednesday and smelled first-hand what a college full of boys can be mid week when no females are expected on campus.

MizzBee–Ew!

I am pretty sure if it weren’t for women, men would still be living in caves. Dark, smelly, caves. :D

LOL @ the Humans vs. Zombies mention… My son is applying in August to only Texas A&M at Galveston, and he already absolutely loves everything about the school. But his decision was cemented in his brain after our latest visit last weekend where he found out they not only have a huge annual HvZ tournament, but they also have intramural dodgeball, LOL. Can I just say how jealous I am?? I am totally sneaking into the HvZ thing… :p

D stepped on the campus and felt as though she had entered “Narnia.” Deer roam freely on campus…yes, it is still school but “Living in a Postcard” help a lot!!!

My D loves football and really wanted to go to a big rah-rah school. She agreed to visit Penn, but didn’t expect to like it. When the tour stopped at historic Franklin Field and the tour guide talked about the tradition where students throw toast on the field during football games in place of an older tradition where they drank a toast to “Dear Old Penn,” she was hooked.

As they drove in to the parking lot on her first visit to JMU, my friend’s D exclaimed “I love it here!” We always joke that she feel in love with the parking lot.

Trees.

Specifically the one tree in the middle of the quad who’s branch slopes to the ground enabling one to climb up its entire 20-foot glory.

Niqui… that reminded me that my DS really fell in love with the climbable trees at UCSB, too. He has ALWAYS been up in a tree when he could be.

Niquii77 and esobay, your tree talk makes me laugh. When we were touring Vassar the young guide said that the whole campus is designated as an arboretum, therefore there is a rule that no one is allowed to climb the trees. My S muttered that he’d never attend a school where he couldn’t climb the trees. I thought to myself what a silly reason that was to cross a college of the list. When I arrived to visit his new campus during Family Weekend his freshman year, he was limping. I asked what had happened and he pointed to the magnificent tree he had fallen out of.

All you can eat Chick-Fil-A in the cafeteria at University of Oklahoma. ;-)
