I’m a HS Senior, and have been unsure about what to major in. I have narrowed my interests down to human behavior, psychology, a daunting challenge, and complex machines. Recently, I stumbled upon human factors and ergonomics, which combine my four major interests. I am certainly keen on the testing and producing of a safe and efficient product. However, I strongly desire to be an engineer (ruling out psych or soc). Most employment opportunities request a human factors, industrial, systems engineer, or “a related field of study”. Ergo, a bachelor’s in human factors engineering would be exceptional.
That’s the problem.
Neither Ole Miss nor Alabama (the two colleges that I’ve prepared for) have an undergraduate program for human factors, industrial, or systems engineering. From what I can tell, I should probably attend for general engineering with a minor in either manufacturing or business administration. Also, it may benefit me to pursue a master’s, in order to widen my prospects and improve my marketability.
What degrees would land me a job that a human factors or systems engineer would? What is “a related field of study”?
What minor might assist me in possessing such a job?
Would a master’s in a certain area be worth the time and money? If so, what area?
Below are links for both school’s engineering programs. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated!!
