I would be willing to read someone’s essay as well if they PMed me

i’m down to share essays if you guys want

here’s a thought - you could always go to other threads and not just spam this one up LOL
but then again it’s your choice

Feel free to email your essays to me as well - my sister got into SIMR and I’ve read hers, so I have a general idea of what a good essay looks like.

lol I got warned by collegeboard. I tried to do that and it was time consuming. I apologize to you all who were bothered by my spam. I can now send PM so that I can send essays.

wait, nvm. I can’t

Waaait, there wasn’t any box or anything where we had to indicate which prompt we were writing to (for the 2nd essay), right? I don’t remember that there was but I was in a bit of a rush to hit submit…

^ Yeah there was no box lol

Would it be too late if I asked another teacher to send a recommendation if my previous teacher already submitted his? If it is too late, how bad would a short rec letter be? It’s only 3 paragraphs long (3 short paragraphs) saying that "he have impressed me with intelligence and diligence, I think that would make him an effective researcher in science, on a personal level he is friendly, quiet and focused, he is in these clubs (doesn’t describe what I do in them.)

It is too late, unfortunately.

How badly will it affect me?

When do we know the results?

The first week of April. It says in the confirmation e-mail.

So how badly will that short and cliche rec letter affect me?

It won’t look good, but it’s probably not app-killing.

So is it true that SIMR still gives regional preference? If so, I’m screwed lol.

Is it bad that I disclosed a LD? I thought it would put my GPA more into context. I have pretty powerful essays and rec letter…

Good luck to everyone applying to SIMR! It’s a great experience but recognize it is extremely hard to get into. In addition, admissions to all these summer programs are super random. Last year I was rejected from SSP, RSI and a few regional program but got into SIMR. So don’t let a rejection get you down because each programs looks for different criteria.

I got a message about chancing someone for SIMR and I can honestly say that it is impossible to chance because everyone I met at SIMR was by far the best and brightest the US had to offer. In addition, not everything is about the tangibles and scores, but it may be the intangibles such as character displayed in your essay or a certain skillset that you have. All this advice goes for college admissions as well, as I know you all are rapidly approaching your college apps this year.

Can any SIMR alumni post his/her stats for the benefit of the community?

@dasdui Everyone I know who’s applying and who’ve gotten in before have gotten 2350-2400s and have straight As.
