Simultaneous Major: Engineering/Haas

I've been admitted to UC Berkeley College of Engineering, and I'm wondering if I can do a simultaneous major in engineering (probably mechanical) and management (if it's a major...I couldn't find Haas's list of majors). Is it possible?

You can, but you’ll need to maintain a pretty high GPA to have a chance. Haas’ only major is Business Administration (there’s no Finance, Accounting, Management, and etc) but you can pick the businesses classes that cater to your needs.

yes it’s possible. i’ve heard it’s a rather attractive pair. best of luck

So I’m a MechE and im going to tay its going to be pretty difficult… Mechanical Engineering has a lot of pre-reqs they make you take. ME 102A,102B, 104, 106, 107, 108, 109,132, EE100 are all required upper divs. Then you have the ~15 units upper div techs. If you can actually fit in all the classes then it shouldn’t be that bad. EECS + Haas is actually feasible if you do the min EECS classes which is the lower div + 5 uppers.

If you got rid of all the lower div math and physics from community college and came in with a lot of APs then it might be possible. Most mechE people I know are just mechE, a few joint majoring with materials and a few mechE+EECS, but i don’t know any haas people.

The problem is just doing all the classes necessary for the degree. You have to AP out of a lot, take summer classes basically every summer and i think you only get an extra semester for doubling…

Try surviving a few semesters before you think about doubling. Good luck on MechE, it gets a lot harder once you get to upper div techs!

Thanks a lot for the help guys. If all else fails I’ll look to business as a grad option.

Anybody knows what about from the College of Chemistry, studying Chemical Engineering? Any way to get a simultaneous degree from haas?

^ the thing about simultaneous degrees is that you need signatures from BOTH schools/colleges.

so sure it’s theoretically “doable” but is it going to happen in your case? i.e. will they sign off on you doing it? you need to fill out the forms and propose your schedule for the remaining years (if you want haas and chemE, you need to get into haas first, so you can’t really declare the simultaneous degree path just yet.

I’m currently accepted to COC for chemical engineering. Does that mean that in addition i also have to apply to HAAS? and is it too late…?

you apply to haas the fall of your sophomore year at cal and if you’re accepted into the 2 year program, you start the fall of your junior year.

if you want to apply to haas there’s certain prereqs you have to take and you have to maintain a competitive gpa while also trying to showcase your leadership or work experience either on or off campus.

if you can be a “competitive candidate” as a ChemE, more power to you. good luck.

If you’re looking into engineering management positions, you could consider majoring in Operations Research and Management Science in L&S. It’s a capped major:

@crowslayer91: thanks for the info!

@weebly: That looks very interesting. How early would I have to declare a possible simultaneous major for ORMS, and since it’s a capped major, what are my chances of getting it?
