Single Dorms

I'm an incoming freshmen at Colgate and I was recently assigned a single dorm in East Hall.

To be quite honest I'm a little bummed because I am social person and I did look forward to meeting a random roommate and living that college dorm experience.

After giving some thought though, I was thinking it's actually not too bad considering the number of people who are unsatisfied with their roommates or even having to deal with living with another person. Some of my college friends have told me they would rather live in a single.

At a small, liberal arts college like Colgate, how do you think living in a single will affect me?

Leave your door open when you’re in the room is my best suggestion. You’ll meet SOO many people in classes, clubs, and so forth that occasionally it could be nice to come back to a quiet room.

I was in East my freshman year - the singles are all on the main hallways of the floors (it’ll make sense when you get there) so just prop your door open when you want company and I guarantee lotsa people will walk by. We also hung out in the hallways a lot (only the fourth floor has a social room and it’s pretty teeny), so you really should have no problem making friends in the dorm, and that’s not even considering all the other places you be able to meet people
