I think you can get a track scholarship, m&s. :)

m&sdad-
Is that a typo or a correct time?? 26:20??? Thats lightning speed! That’s faster than any of the finish times of the fastest professional racers running the Atlanta Peachtree Roadrace in its 40 year history!

m&sdad-
They just reported on the news that the winner of the Peachtree Roadrace won it in his personal best, 27:22, and he won many thousands of dollars!!! You should have come here and made a killing!! Perchance did you run a 5k?? Thats still great! Congrats!

Oops. It was 5k. (red face).

And I am new to running. And typing apparently…

You’re still my hero. :)

^^ LOL. We are still impressed! :)

Good news here (I think)–my 17 year old baby got his driver’s license! About a week before the learner’s permit was due to expire, and it only took one try. (whew)

So I can stop riding with him and pressing my foot against the floor, and start worrying about him until he is home safely.

Bump…

And if anyone needs me, I’ll be in Brazil, taste-testing the rum.

OK…back 10 days later, and I’m still talking to myself. There’s a huge echo in here. Hello???

:(

Just for the record, the rum is excellent, as is the beer. And all the food.

And these old feet learned to samba! :)

Haven’t seen a thread update in my email for a while and wouldn’t you know it one show’s up on the day LFWB deploys.

He finished packing, dropped him off for 15 minutes for him to say so long to the folks at his Temporary Duty Station, then to lunch and then to the airport. (On the ride to the airport he sang Anchors Aweigh and while I have heard it and sung it a million times, it had a whole new meaning as he sang it this time.)

The complexity of emotions is hard to describe watching your kid, who four years ago when you thought dropping him off for Indoc at the Academy was a big deal, heading through security at the airport to be forward deployed in defense of our nation. I think unbelievably humbling was the first emotion, then proud, and happy that he’s doing what he’s wanted to do for so long. Oh yeah, and just a little scared. While a destroyer in the South China Sea isn’t Kandahar, you never know what the Kim Jung Il and North Koreans are going to do next.

So, after he disappeared to his gate, I went and toasted the next chapter in his excellent adventure…

So, raise a glass with me to LFWB and as the song goes…“drink to the foam!”

Anchors Aweigh, my boys
Anchors Aweigh
Farewell to college joys
We sail at break of day, ay, ay, ay
Through our last night ashore
Drink to the foam
Until we meet once more
Here’s wishing you a happy voyage home!

Aye, aye, LFWB dad…as a Navy brat your post brought tears to my eyes. Congratulations to you and your son - may God hold him in the palm of His hand.

To sweethearts and wives – may they never meet!

Saude! as they say in Brasil. (Don’t know how to create the accent over the U.)

Smooth seas and happy sailing to LFWB.

Safe and sound in Yokosuka!

LFWB dad, to your son! May that Il old dude stay out of his path.

Wooow… The Alley is a dead zone… C’mon, people, are we so frugal now that we only mix our own drinks?! The bartender at the Alley must be starving for work (and tips!).

Well, I did bring back a bottle of excellent cachaca (rum) from Brazil that was only $6 a bottle.

Too busy researching & visiting the colleges that must not be named. And some that may be, but we don’t talk about that here. I’ll be back when there’s something to celebrate…

Bumping up the Alley…

I’d like to share the lovely HOMEMADE peach wine I tasted while visiting family. It’s a bottomless bottle, so barkeep, set em up!

If it tastes anything like the peach wine I tasted at a local farmers market ---- yummy!

mmmmmmmmmm. may I have seconds?

Of course! :)
