Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

Had to look that up, @Dave_N, but that is an admirable goal. I’m working on it.

Its Saturday, is it 5:00 somewhere?

It’s not even noon here, @CottonTales, but DH and I are already planning our pre-dinner cocktail menu. We may imbibe with our son over FaceTime tonight, so it’s just a matter of picking the bourbon. Juleps or Manhattans…?

@ChoatieMom, considering where you are, I would definitely go with a refreshing Julep! Cheers

@ChoatieMom , does your Costco sell the cocktail ice popsicle? Can’t sell them here in Texas, but they sound awesome for 100+ temps.

^^^Yes, already had two today.

Decided on a martini over a julep or Manhattan for cocktail hour tonight.

Happy Derby Day! Do we really need a reason for mint juleps? I may have two.

Anyone have a favorite julep recipe (or horse)? Our concoction is pretty typical, but we do make our own simple syrup with garden mint, and we do serve them in chilled silver cups.

Cheers!

I was sad to see the one horse fall before the race. Glad the horse is fine, ouch for the trainer with the broken arm and hope he has good insurance…

Saved you a stool @Dave_N. Rant away.

Definitely need this thread today!! Thank you!

Hope you are feeling better, ChoatieMom.

Opened a bottle of my favorite red at 4pm. The ONLY reason I’m not drinking the whole bottle before bed is I just can’t stand the inevitable next day headache.

Difficult to drink your way through potentially catastropic chaos when two glasses is pushing it.

However, I’m giving it my best try.

@ChoatieMom I’m late to discovering this thread. But we also make our own infused concoctions… mint simple syrup using monk fruit (low carb), basil infused vodka, etc

Any herb cocktail was on the menu this year as we have mint, rosemary, basil and peppers in abundance. It’s been fun gifting neighbors with a mason jar of our latest infusion. ??

Happy Fall, y’all!

In other news, last night we made a one pan mushroom lasgna from bon appetit. I found a cold bottle of rose in the fridge. Since we are heading toward fall, we opened it with dinner and the lasagna.

Surprisingly good pairing!

Buying our way out stress tonight with ramen. Probably paired with Great Lakes Oktoberfest.

Trying to keep my imbibing to the 3-5 drinks per week I report to the doctor, but the strubble is real.

Knee/leg still elevated, but definitely feeling better. DH is waiting on me hand and foot, so this pain may not go away for a while. “Can you top off my drink just a wee bit, dear?”

It’s quiet in here and a bit early for drinks (mimosa, please, light on the OJ), but the stool is comfy, and I need something to help me unsee my neighbor’s handyman using the porta-potty in their front yard, door too ajar. They’re having work done and wish to keep the men outside as much as possible. Earlier in the week, I had asked the neighbor if he were adding an instant powder room or just experimenting with lawn ornaments which caused him to launch into a very defensive explanation of why the blue outhouse was necessary/temporary.

I guess a year of isolation has impaired the poor man’s sense of humor. Or, that second martini impaired my usually exquisite delivery. In any case, it’s nice to ponder some of life’s odder moments in this COVID-free watering hole.

Cheers.
