Does Berkeley allow sitting in on classes during campus visits?

Yes. If it’s a small class, you might want to send the professor an email, but if it’s a big class, arrive in the lecture hall, be attentive, and try to blend in.

Most professors will actaully be very receptive to the fact that you’re taking things seriously enough to be sitting-in on classes during campus visits.

If you’re really clever, you won’t just sit in on the lecture, you’ll sit in on a section (led by a graduate student) too.

I’m planning to sit in on Math 54 (Lin Alg and Diff Eq), which has about 38 students. Is that considered a big class?

Plus there are so many sections. How do I pick which one?

Anything under 50 is considered small.

Math 54 over the summer is usually taught by graduate students in small sections. Just go to a section in which the time works for you. The professors really make a difference, but with grad students, it’s basically the luck of the draw.
