I've been accepted to SJSU and I have been considering going there, but they're expecting me to pay a $600 initial payment by May 1. I cannot by any means pay this as my family does not have any money saved at all. I don't know what to do I am freaking out. Please lend me some advice!

NervousWreck…If you/your family cannot swing a $600 downpayment for housing and have no savings, how do you intend to pay the cost of attending SJSU? What kind of financial aid package did the school offer you? You need to take a hard look at whether or not SJSU is actually do-able for you and your family. If it isn’t, then there’s no need/reason to scramble for the money to make a housing deposit.

You may want to consider 2 years of CCC and then transfer to a CSU. You will likely save thousands of dollars. You can “bank” any CalGrant monies if you qualify for them for your time at CCC and use them when you transfer.

SJSU is a giant CSU… you will get smaller classes at a CCC and the quality of instruction between the CSUs and CCCs is about the same and sometimes better at a CCC.
