SJUAdmin -
Do all of your merit scholarships require a 3.2gpa to be maintained? My child is very excited about their acceptance and the generous scholarship, but as a parent I am a bit concerned about the gpa requirement. Thanks in advance for the information.

Not all of the scholarships require a 3.2. That is the requirement for the higher scholarships. Lesser scholarships require a less gpa.

I got in with a $60,000 scholarship. I am really tempted to go, but I wonder about how challenging/fulfilling it will be although it does have a great reputation/my dad loved it.

Can anyone from Westfield High tell me if they have decided (or very nearly decided) to attend St. Joe’s for the the Fall 2010?

I was accepted in December. I want to study education. I am not sure yet if I am going to attend St. Joe’s, I am also looking at UMD. I’m not sure if I want the small Catholic school feel that I am used to, or a large public school. Any pros about Saint Joe’s over bigger schools?

Jerseyrose - Pros about St. Joe’s has to do with the size. Classes are small not larger than 30 and it helps in getting to know your professor. Students routinely meet with advisors once a year or more and that is something you may not get at a larger school. A lot depends on whether you will be happy at a small school. Larger schools do not always have a personal feel.

I got accepted a while ago EA but I thought Id post my stats:

SAT: 1200/1800
SATII: 650 USH 610 math1

ranked 55/206
not many ECs just standard (sports, job, some vol work)

scholarship worth 11k per
about 49k in finaid…amazing award

still choosing between schools…accepted to Boston College EA as well as uconn EA. Rejected by villanova. Waiting on Holy Cross

Congrats, those are nice schools. Did you get aid from the others as well?

most likely not attending, going to villanova

Got package today, very generous, but my daughters will be going elsewhere.
I have a son who is hopefully going to be attending grad school and Marist and St Joe were the only schools that said (and UConn) that they would count him and they used just fafsa. Outside of Yale, they gave us they best packages, meeting need for 3 instead of 2. For that, I am grateful. I didn’t believe it until I saw it.

debruns, where are your daughters attending?

One is probably going to Yale, the other is still deciding…will finalize soon.

oh wow, congrats!! a lot of the top kids at my school were rejected from many ivies

It seemed slim around my area too, at least in the public schools near us with Yale, maybe other schools faired better and with different Ivies.

I agree. I’m from a big public school in South Jersey and I only know of 2 kids out of about 650 that got into a few ivies.

JerseyT: I thought you were going to be a Hawk. What happened?

I got in with Presidential scholarship too.
French, lousy grades, decent Math SAT and a fab essay…

daughter toured St. Jo’s today. very nice and got a great feeling all around. too bad student review website has many negative posts about the school. thoughts?
