Not sure. When we toured they didn’t even take us in the dining hall! Maybe that’s why! lol They did take us downstairs to some dingy area that was a food court, but it was closed. It didn’t look all that enticing of an area, but I can’t say what the food was like.
lots of schools are getting a bad rep for food esp now w covid take out grab and go dining its such a bummer… I hope they can eat normally in dining halls in the fall…
From what I have been reading (going back 3 years or so) the problem is not since Covid-19 began. I literally have not found one positive review on food at SJU on any website reviewing the school. The comments I see about food are without a doubt the worst reviewed aspect of the school. Most often are along the lines of “lousy”, “disgusting”, “made me sick”, “unfortunate”, “gross”, etc. I fully realize that many schools have an issue with food - I am just hoping to send my son to a school where everything is in place for his success, and for us that includes the nutritional and meal offerings. At the very least, it is disappointing. I am just hoping others here may know more about the food situation. It is not super helpful to remind me that other schools have bad food. I get that but it doesn’t mean we have to just accept it and shrug our shoulders.
Completely understand
I had not read those negative reviews of the food. That’s unfortunate.
Did anyone see the email stating that they may merge with USciences? Thoughts?
I read the article. I think it is a positive and one we will be seeing more and more across the board with colleges in the year(s) to come.
Didn’t know what to think so I came here. I know nothing about the other school but it looks like it’s more selective than SJU although the students have similar GPAs and test scores.
Interested in others thoughts.
I think both schools are similar in selectivity. USciences offers heavy duty science and health sciences that St Joe’s doesn’t have (like pharmacy, toxicology, PT Etc) St. Joes has good business school and humanities and such. They compliment eachother well I think.
Interesting. We’re not from the area so unfamiliar. I read they had a 52% acceptance rate so that’s what I commented on. I’m not against a merger but I am interested in big changes coming up as we make the college decision. So many schools are said to be suffering financially according to Inside Higher Ed that this may be a good thing.
I read on Niche USci acceptance rate is 71%. I don’t know how accurate it is. I am no expert in any of this. I am mildly familiar with the schools. My dd was accepted to both and they are popular choices from where I live. I haven’t seen anything about a tmeframe or how they will structure it but I imagine if they are making this all public, they must be pretty sure of it happening.
It is definitely a good thing. The combined endowment will now be $500M - this really gives SJU scale. (St. Joe’s retains the name). The President, Dr. Reed, looked at this strategically.
They made it public so they can explore the options more openly. I think it may take a year for this to be formalised.
Does anyone know when we find out about scholarships (specifically the McNulty Scholars Program)?
Good question. Son is waiting on STEM2 Scholarship.
I got into Saint Joseph’s! I applied on their regular decision deadline!
Son deciding between SJU & Loyola MD. Anyone else looking at these two or is there anyone who can share thoughts on the decision between the two? They seem very similar in many respects.
What does your son want to study? Which state are you from? What are his interests?
Has anyone decided to commit here?
My daughter is going. Turned down Villanova, Boston College, Holy Cross, William & Mary. SJU had the right “vibe.” She’s excited to spend the next four years on Hawk Hill!
Wow! That must have been some vibe! Good luck!
