Skip Calculus 2 in junior year?

My son took honor pre-calculus in freshman and AP Cal AB in sophomore year. Now, the school counselor suggested him to take Calculus 2 at our state university in junior year. But, we are concerned that there will be wasting time in commuting. He plans to take 3-4 other AP courses: English, Physic C, Statistic and maybe computer science and or economic. He will also have speech club and varsity tennis and robotic club in the spring semester. That’s why I am very concerned if time spent on traveling. Will it be ok to take the calculus 2 class in university in his senior instead? Will it look bad to college admissions that he skip Calculus in junior year?

Colleges won’t expect him to take classes that aren’t available on his high school campus. If AP Calculus BC is offered, he could try to take that. Otherwise, don’t worry about it.

The only concern I would have with that is if your son is taking a year off of Calculus, it may be a little difficult jumping back into it. In college, professors will most likely expect students taking Calculus II to already know everything from Calculus I/AB when starting off. I would consider investing in a Calc AB Barron’s Book or something if he doesn’t have one and creating a practice schedule so he can maintain his current math skills.

I am new to CC. Wow! Thank you for all your advices. I have only one child and often have no clue…so glad now I can come get advices.
