I am currently in 10th grade and taking Honors Algebra 2. I would like to skip Pre-calc for next year, meaning that I would take the course at a local college over the summer, and then take BC calc junior year. My reasoning behind this is because Advanced calculus is offered after BC calc is taken. Is this a bad idea. I currently have an A average in Honors Algebra 2 instead of an A+. Would the trig and other information (but trig especially) learned in a five week summer course be sufficient for BC Calc? Thanks.
You want to be really solid on algebraic and trigonometric basics. Is getting to advanced calc that important to you? Most students only go up to Calc 1 (AB) or Calc 2 (BC) in HS.
It really depends on your math background.
It seems like you are mistaking the math sequence.
If you are taking pre-cal at a local college over the summer, then next math class in sequence would be caluclus 1, which is AP Calc AB, not BC. Only if you take pre-calc and calculus 1 over the summer, then you’ll be able to take AP Calc BC.
UNLESS, your AP Calc BC class goes over both Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 materials, then yes, it might be possible.
Good luck!
Depends on the college and what is covered in their precalculus class. If the class is as thorough as your high school’s class would be, then you are fine.
